Christmas for Subscribers

It’s been awhile, but I have a new FREEbie for subscribers!  This one is just on time for the holidays.  It could be used in the classroom in a math center or at home.

cover with Santa frame and elf for "Christmas Roll & Cover BUMP Game

This FREEbie is a roll & cover that uses 1 to 3 dice.  For some, the number rolled will be covered, but for others the player will have to add or subtract.  This also makes a fun game of BUMP!

In order to get this FREEbie, you have to subscribe to my blog.  You get a newsletter each time that I have a new blog post and I do a special e-mail from time to time.  I will never spam you, as I don’t like that in my inbox either!  The password for the Subscriber ONLY page is in every newsletter.  If you’d like to subscribe, simply go to the “Home” page or sign-up in the sidebar on the right side.

Advent: New and Revised

Are you ready for Advent? Tomorrow is the first Sunday of Advent for 2018. If you haven’t yet prepared your lesson or activities, I might be able to help!

Advent candles - hope peace joy love

First, I’ve updated my 2 previous Advent Activity Packs.  I’ve revised them so that all the color purple is now violet and pink is now rose.  It’s a fairly minor change, but I wanted them to be modernized with the colors that we now call them and they’re the same through all the resources now.

I’ve created a new Advent Activity Pack for this year.  It’s the 3rd installment!  This one has a “My Advent Reflections” book that the kids or even adults can note their reflections for each Sunday or week of Advent.  There are 2 to write on with differenciated lines for various ages/grades.  There is also one to draw on.  It also includes a worksheet and 5 puzzles….and they all have an answer key!

This pack is also comprised of 22 word wall cards and 2 blank for you to add words of your own.  Some of the ways to use these cards are to just display them during a lesson, write sentences using the words, write the room, and many other uses.  A few of the words included are coming, hope, liturgical year, Advent, rose, and more!

The best part about this?  I’ve combined all 3 Advent Activity Packs into a bundle at more than 20% off the individual resource price.  Is there anything better?  Yes, there is!  You can use coupon code ADVENT to get an additional 10% off the bundle and the individual packs (in case you don’t want to purchase the bundle).  Oh, and as an added bonus, I’m including the Advent Write the Room and the O Antiphons Poster and Activity Pack in the coupon discount and it doesn’t expire until 24 December!

Site Update is Complete

It’s been an interesting procces, but I think the site update is complete!

I’ve worked and reworked many areas of the site.  I hope that it helps you navigate the site easier and makes it accessible to find whatever you’re looking for.  I also hope that it makes reading the blog simpler and even added ease in viewing the Shop.

The biggest change is probably how clean and streamlined the new look is.  There’s less moving parts and clutter that I feel like were preventing you all from enjoying your time here.  I’ve always wanted the site to look fresh and I think I managed that, as well as making it nice and modern.

The sidebar is cleaner and clearer with all the extras removed and making it easier as to what you’re clicking.  There’s also a menu at the top and the bottom of the page now so that you can navigate the site between the blog, Shop, and other areas in a painless way!

I don’t want to bore you with all the details.  I’m pretty happy though and I taught myself even more code.  That always gets interesting!  Take your time and browse around, take a look at the different areas of the site, and let me know what you think!  If you find something not working properly or hard to use, please let me know so that I can fix it or find another method.  Thanks for all your patience and I hope that you enjoy your time at The Treasured Schoolhouse even more!

Religious Incentives

Do you use incentives or rewards in your class or homeschool? There are several ways that you can reward kids for doing such as behavior, completing homework, memorizing verses, or other things.

In my religious education class (CCD), I use Bible Bucks.  These come in the same amounts that our currency comes in, with a couple extras.  Students can earn Bible Bucks for returning their folder to class each week, doing homework, and other such matters.  Usually about every 3 weeks I let the kids shop in the Gospel Store.

Most of the items in the Gospel Store are things that I purchase at Wal-Mart or Dollar Tree.  I try to find toys and items related to the Bible.  I’ve had items like small stuffed animals such as a whle for Jonah and the Whale or Bible story books.  I price the items for sale by size and the biggest is no more than 5 Bible Bucks and the smallest would be 1 Bible Buck.  I store the pieces in containers that I get at Dollar Tree and tag each bin with the price of that the objects in that bin.

Oriental Trading also has lot of sets of small Chrisitan toys and novelties.  These not only work great in the Gospel Store, but they’re also perfect for the Treasure Chest.

Incentives are a fantastic tool in the classroom or at home to reward the kids.  It encourages them to keep working hard and to be responsible.  It’s always fun to watch them shop in the Gospel Store and in my class, they love to keep up with how many Bible Bucks that they’ve saved.

If you’d like to use the Bible Bucks that I’ve made, please click the image below for more information or just add them to your cart.  Only the bundle is shown below, but it’s a saving of 20% off the individual sets (color/bw)!

What do You See in Church?

inside church looking from pews forward to crucifix

Teaching kids about what they’ll see inside the church when they attend mass is so important.  I have some worksheets and activities that can help teach or review what they’ll see inside the church!

To make it easier for little ones to understand what is going on during mass, it’s vital that they understand the items that they will see while there.  Use the pages as you walk around church explaining the items or after a tour of the church.  This will help them to feel more comfortable and know their way around the church.

To get elementary kids to participate in mass or even become altar servers, it’s key for them to know all the components used during mass and what they’ll see and use in church.  Their understanding of these items will allow them to be interested on what’s going on during the mass.

Have the kids match up the name of the item found inside the church to that item.

For big kids, you want to keep them coming to mass and being able to understand the elements used during mass or just seen inside the church makes them feel more welcomed.

Take the kids to church and write down the items that they can identify in church and on the sheet.

The more kids know about what they’ll see in church and used during mass, the more interested and happy they will be.  It increases their participation.

You can find these worksheet and activity packs in my Shop to help teach or review the items found inside the church (click on each image to view what’s included in each pack or add to your cart here)….

COMING SOON!

I hope this helps and gives you some ideas to help the kids understand what’s inside the church!
