5 Finger Prayer for Subscribers

I know that it’s been awhile, but I have a “Subscriber ONLY” printable that I just uploaded and I’m excited about it. If you don’t already subscribe to the newsletter, you can do so in the right hand column. I don’t like spam either, so you’ll only receive a newsletter when there’s a new blog post.  Each newsletter has the current password to the “For Subscribers” page.   You also have the option to get the additional newsletter when I post new items in the Shop.

This printable is Pope Francis’ 5 Finger Prayer Poster and Worksheet Pack.  It includes 1 poster in color and the on the reverse side, you can print the meaning of the prayer fingers in English or Spanish.  In addition to that, there’s a page that can be used as a poster or print multiple on a page to attach to desk as a reminder.

Finally, there are 3 worksheets.  These worksheets include cut and paste, label, and matching.  They’ll work for a variety of ages/grades to teach, review, or anything to suit your needs for Pope Francis’ 5 Finger Prayer.

I hope that all subscribers like this freebie, but more so that the kids enjoy it!!

Need Your Help

Hello all!!
I’m working on updating one of my printables and I could use some input.  I’d appreciate if you’d read through and then vote in the poll to help me out with this.

I have a booklet for the 10 Commandments.  There is a little kids and a big kids version.  In the little kids version, I try to simplify all the Commandments so that they’re easier to understand.  In the big kids version, they’re the actual words of the Commandments.  My problem is with the little kids version.

Since I work with littles (PreK-K), I had to have my DRE double check what I was using in class.  The wording that she let me use for the 6th Commandment is “Do not love another”, which is actually “Thou shalt not commit adultery”.  Obviously I can’t use adultery because the littles don’t understand it and we actually don’t discuss it that much.  It is more along the lines of “you should only love the person that you’re with” (and of course family and friends).

My issue is that I’ve had a couple complaints about this wording.  I’ve been told that it doesn’t make sense unless it’s fully explained to them (2nd graders) and it’s confusing for children and should be worded differently (grades K-4).  No input on what the other wording could be or how to make it less confusing or how it wouldn’t have to be fully explained.

So, how should I word it??  I can make it “Do not love another than the one you’re with”, but that gets pretty long and awkward looking for text to be colored in by the children.  Please take the poll below to help me with this dilemma.  You can also type in your own choice for wording as well.  Also, feel free to leave a comment on this post with your ideas.

Thanks for reading….and voting in the poll to help me out!!

Objects in Church and for Mass

This week, we worked on what’s inside the church. Next week, we’ll go tour the church and Father will have items for mass set-up for the kids. This all leads up to the week after when we attend mass for Ash Wednesday. I do lots of prep because of many of the kids, this is the first or only time attending mass, especially for the little ones.

I start by talking about the things that they can see outside and as they walk into the church. This is a great book for discussing the different objects in church….

I then discuss several objects with them.  We do a fun activity of matching items that we’d see in church or not see in church.  Sometimes they circle the items or color the items that they see in church.  This time, we drew a line from the object to the church.

You could also simply place an “X” through items not found in church.

Next, we work on tracing the names of some of the objects in church.

Finally, we do a cut and paste activity. I had them color the church and then they were told to color the objects that they would find in the church. We should have cut them out and then glued them onto the church, but we ran out of time!!

You can find the pages that we worked on in the What’s Inside the Church Worksheet Pack in my shop.

[add_to_cart id="3444"]

You can also see my new expanded pack, What’s Inside the Church 2 Worksheet & More Pack for older kids to learn about the objects in church and used during mass and it’s exclusive to my shop.

[add_to_cart id="3438"]

If you use coupon code CHURCH, you can take 25% off those 2 printables!

Treasured Points

I’m excited to tell you all about a new program that I’ve implemented at The Treasured Schoolhouse Shop.  It’s a new points rewards program where you earn points for each purchase and other processes.

Here’s an example of what you’ll see now with each printable….

It will show how many points you’ll earn if you purchase the item.  As you can see, we round it up, so in this case it’s a $2.50 item and you’ll receive 3 points.  During a sale, you’ll earn points for the regular price of the materials, and not the sale price.

Other ways that you can earn points are by opening an account with The Treasured Schoolhouse Shop.  That earns 5 points.  You can also earn 2 Treasured Points for each feedback that you leave on printables that you purchase.

When you’re ready to use your Treasured Points, you can redeem them during the checkout process.  When redeeming them, they have a value of 15 Treasured Points is equal to $1.  That means if you have 30 Treasured Points and are purchasing a $4 item, your 30 points will take $2 off the amount in the shopping cart.

The best part is that you can use your Treasured Points on your next purchase, or you can save them until you’re ready to use them.  The points never expire!

If you’d like to learn more about Treasured Points, please click here.  If there’s a question or comment that you have, please leave a comment on that page and I’ll reply right away!

Creation

Last night was the first night back to class. I was excited to meet my new kiddos and get back to religious education.

I always start with creation because well, that’s where we  started.  So much time is spent on rules, what’s expected, homework, prayers, and so on, that the lesson needs to be fairly simple.  I break creation down over a couple of lessons and classes.  Yesterday, I read the story of creation to them from the Bible.  I stop after each day to review what was created that day.

Then, we did a cut & paste worksheet that I made for class.  It’s a mat that has each day and what was created on it.  So they start off by coloring what was created each day.

Lots of colors and no scribbling!

Next, we cut out all the different days.

Good scissors skills!

Then, we glued them onto the mat and placed them in their boxes.

We love our glue sponges!
Glue them into their proper days!

Here’s the final project!!
